Inland Sunset

Sunsets on Huron are on a land-locked
inland sea.
The surf breathes gently...
it exhales softly on the pebbled shore.
And as I stand
and as I gaze
the water stretches to the horizon.
The curve of the earth
is visible.
The vista seems as vast to me
as that of the Pacific.
Because,
in all reality,
the water exists only
as far as my eye can see.
And that is only as far as the horizon.
