"In a time when nothing is more certain than change, the commitment of two people to one another has become difficult and rare. Yet, by its scarcity, the beauty and value of this exchange have only been enhanced." ~ Robert Sexton

38 years ago I married this man.  We were just a couple of kids.  He'd just turned 21 and I was 20.  We had no idea then just how young we were.  Yesterday I was at the library and I overheard a young lady tell her companion, "Michael, I'm 20 years old!" like she was old enough and smart enough to know her own mind.  It caused me to look up at her and I thought, "My word, how young she is."  Was I really married by then?!  But I thought then that 58, which is the age I am now, was like having one foot in the grave.  Hopefully, that isn't true yet.

Oh my.  The good times, the hard times we've shared.  Good health, ill health. Surgeries.  Times when we had no idea how we were going to pay our bills, but always having enough.  Raising two wonderful children.  Being blessed with a daughter-in-law who is like another daughter to us, and two precious grandsons.  Unemployment.  Feast.  Famine.  Grouchy moods.  Peaceful company as we read and listen to music together. Tons and tons and tons of laughter.  Days when we've looked at each other and not liked each other very much.  We know what we each look like when we get out of bed in the morning and haven't run away yet.

Besides children and family, we've had one other Companion for almost 36 of these 38 years.  The good Lord.  Making the decision to let Him be our Guide, our Friend, our Counsellor, and our Comforter was the best one we ever made.  So, thank YOU, Lord.  I don't even like to wonder where we'd be without You.

Moving description of your marriage journey, and I can identify with the perspective of looking back at getting married young, thinking you "knew" what you were doing. I am so thankful also for the Lord being on this journey with us and that He kept us together. I am thankful I was committed to the marriage from the start - didn't just "hope" it would work out or consider alternatives. You gave God the glory - AMEN!

Happy Anniversary! Yes, 38 years together is a rare thing. You started earlier than Hubby and I did. We are on our 37th year now, with three kiddos, two married and four grands. Life is precious and takes us on rides to amazing places. No matter what happens in this life, our faith tells us the best is yet to come. We are chosen for Eternity.

We we say our wedding vows we are really thinking for better, in health and in wealth. A good marriage enjoys those and grows during the time of for worse, in sickness and poverty.
Happy anniversary.

Yes, you were young! I often wonder how old my girls will be when they marry.

It is quite a journey... marriage; however, I believe as you do; that God is definitely in the picture.

I say that humorously and seriously. :)

May you be blessed with many, many more years together as the two of you share your lives with your children and grandchildren.
